About
For as long as I can remember, I have loved to eat food. Growing up in a big family with three younger brothers, so much of my time was spent in the kitchen- helping my mom bake elaborate birthday cakes, preparing for Christmas caroling parties, and working diligently to concoct the best mac-n-cheese recipe ever.
After moving off to college at UCSB, I spent my first two years living in the residence halls and my sorority, so getting my own kitchen in an apartment this year has been a dream come true. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago I learned that I have developed allergies to peanuts, dairy, eggs, and wheat. If you know me, those are pretty much the staples of my diet. I've always loved finding healthy recipes, but now I had a bigger challenge on my hands. Spending hours online searching for alternatives taught me four things:
1. All of the recipes that were gluten free contained eggs/dairy/peanut flour to taste, you know, good.
2. All of the vegan recipes used wheat ingredients also to taste good.
3. Every recipe had a zillion ingredients that poor college student Jane couldn't afford or store.
4. The chocolate cookie recipes all tasted like cardboard (unacceptable honestly)
I knew something had to be done, and therefore I have created this blog. It's going to be a trial-and-error experience because this is new to me, but come along for the experience and hopefully you'll find something worth trying out yourself.
All of these recipes are dairy, egg, wheat, and peanut free. I'm not advocating for a diet that is free of these things unless you are allergic or intolerant, but I think these recipes will be fab and maybe you'll want to try them anyway!
Thanks so much for coming along. Who knows, you might want to save the spoon! Something better could be right around the corner.
